I have studied the subjects of the overcomers extensively for the purpose of the first book I wrote. I am now researching and studying the difference between the spirit, soul and body for the second book. But in reality I have found it extremely important to understand these subjects thoroughly in scripture in order to grow and mature in my Christian walk.
Let’s see what scripture says about these topics
Jesus overcame to sit down on His Father’s throne AND we are also called to overcome and sit down on the throne of Jesus. He is the FIRSTBORN of many Brethren. (Romans 8:29.)
To overcome means we actually have to overcome something. Read Revelation chapters 1, 2 and 3 and pay attention to where Jesus says numerous times to the churches; “TO HE WHO OVERCOMES.” Those who overcome will receive the overcomers reward, which is the full inheritance of Gods Kingdom, including to rule and reign with Jesus. To achieve that ultimate reward is symbolized by the Most Holy place in the tabernacle of Moses.
Remember, heaven is a tabernacle and that pattern overlays everything. If you do not understand the tabernacle, then much of scripture will not make sense and you will not fully understand many things.
The Lord told me to study the tabernacle, He said “it is the pattern that overlays everything.” So I set my heart on laying aside all the traditions and teachings of men and just sought the Lord and let the Spirit of the Lord teach me and reveal truth. I highly recommend this to anyone on the overcomer’s path. The truth will set you free indeed!
Who are the Overcomers?
The bride of Christ is the Overcomers who will overcome and sit down on His throne, like Jesus overcame and sat down on His Fathers throne.
Rev 3:21“To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.
2 Timothy 2 :12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:,
Also read Revelation 5:10.
The Apostle Paul talks about the whole subject of overcoming very much in his writings. He documents well the struggles he had with his flesh warring against his spirit. The same is true for us.
Galatians 5:16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.
Clearly Paul is telling us the difference between the flesh, soul and spirit here, and in many other scriptures like Romans 8:12-14.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
Clearly Paul is telling us the difference between spirit, flesh and soul and to not let the flesh lead. Sadly that is the problem with many Christians.
Paul tells us we are a three part being. The Spirit of Christ lives in our inner man, our spirit, and that part has been made new and 100 % perfect when we are born again. Our spirit is closed off to access to anyone except God. But the soul and the flesh are still corrupt and we will struggle against it until we die.
Ephesians 3:16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power THROUGH HIS SPIRIT IN THE INNER MAN,
Romans 7:22 For IN MY INNER BEING I delight in God’s law;
The tabernacle pattern overlays the human being. The Most Holy place (Holy of Holies) symbolizes the spirit of man. That place is closed off and that is where God resides. The Holy Place (the Sanctuary) symbolizes the soul, and the outer court symbolizes the flesh body. There is so much to study here, so I urge you all to study the tabernacle.
Light and Darkness in the same Born Again Being?
Scripture tells us not to have fellowship with darkness because we are to separate from the world, be set apart and love and serve God with our WHOLE being. That includes our mind, which is our soul.
Luke 10:27 So he answered and said, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind,’ and ‘your neighbor as yourself.’ ”
2 Corinthians 6:17 Therefore “Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.”
Ephesians 5:8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is acceptable to the Lord. 11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret. 13 But all things that are exposed are made manifest by the light, for whatever makes manifest is light. 14 Therefore He says:
“Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”
These scriptures are clearly telling us that we must separate from darkness and reject it, and walk as the light that we became when we are born again. But when we fall back into the world and its ways, or never come out of it in the first place, then our flesh and soul has opened the door for the kingdom of darkness to operate in our lives. That is why Paul taught continually to walk in the Spirit and walk in the light! He said to find out what is acceptable to the Lord. Why would he say it if it were not true? It is a choice we make!
Can a Christian Have a Demon?
Scripture says light has no place in darkness because we are to separate from it, this is our choice!
Even Paul had a “messenger of satan, a thorn is his FLESH.” A DEMON.
2 Corinthians 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.
Peter spoke with the “mouth of satan” to Jesus in Matthew 16.
22 Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “God forbid it, Lord! This shall never happen to You.” 23 But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”
There are a lot of Christians out there letting satan use their mouth to propagate man’s interests and human wisdom and not the Lords. Please do not be one of those! God is trying to set His people free with the SWORD of the Spirit, the word of God, as in Isaiah 27:1. The Lord is trying to teach us to use the word of God as our weapon, and if we need a weapon, then obviously there in an enemy that we are contending with.
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Ephesians 6: 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
The mind, will and emotions make up the soul of a human being. That is where satan gets his hooks in us if we are not led by the Holy Spirit and continuously filled with the Spirit (Eph 5:18), and continually washing our minds with the water of the word of God. (Eph 5:26) AND using the word as our weapon!
The battlefield is in the mind. Satan can afflict and tempt us in our mind, thoughts, beliefs AND the flesh if we do not know the word and come into agreement with Gods word and resist and reject the lies of the enemy.
Jesus was tempted in His flesh and mind by satan and He used the word of God to resist satan in the wilderness.
Matthew 4:1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”
I’ve heard it said that the greatest lie satan ever told is that he does not exist. In my opinion the second greatest lie satan tells is that a Christian cannot have a demon. Scripture clearly teaches the opposite.
John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
This is why we are instructed to take up the full armor of God. (Ephesians 6:1-10). Each piece of Gods armor is a study in itself and is very important to understand the significance of it.
In addition to the armor, we are to wash our mind with the water of the word. The Apostle Paul also teaches us to use a filter for our mind (Philippians 4:8) and to give our thoughts to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:3) These things are attained with practice. If scripture teaches it, then it is do-able. Again, this is about OVERCOMING!
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.
2 Corinthians 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. 4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, 5 casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 6 and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
Jesus is telling us to overcome in Revelation chapters 2 and 3. He is telling us to repent, return to our first love and submit to Him and His ways fully. He also says in Revelation 2:6 that He hates the deeds of the Nicolaitans. That word Nicolaitans means “destruction of people.”
Clearly scripture teaches us that Gods people are destroyed from lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). But also because of the false knowledge and false concepts that are perpetrated by the institutionalized church system controlled by the Nicolaitan spirit working with the Leviathan spirit (pride). If we can’t trust that scripture means exactly what it says, then we can’t trust God, and that is a LIE from hell. Are you going to believe God and His word or are you going to believe the unteachable Nicolaitans who have come into agreement with darkness?
Deliverance is the Children’s Bread
In Mark chapter 7 we read about a conversation Jesus had with a Greek woman about casting a demon out of her daughter. In verse 27 Jesus says something strange; “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” Then the woman replies “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children’s crumbs.”
Because the woman believed that Jesus could cast out the demon, He then spoke a word and the demon was cast out of the child, and she was not even present.
The reason this event is in scripture is primarily to illustrate to us that deliverance is for the children of God. Who are the children of God? The Christians, the believers, the redeemed of the Lord! That is why Jesus said what He did. When a Christian is born again, they are not fully delivered. Their spirit is made into a new creation where God lives in the “inner man.” But many Christians have never been delivered and they simply do not even believe in it, therefore they never fully grow into the overcomers that Jesus desires for us to become.
In addition, this lesson about deliverance in Mark 7 speaks to why it is not wise to cast a demon out of an unbeliever. Because they have not been born again and made into a new creation, they do have the Holy Spirit in them whereby they are able to overcome and walk out their deliverance.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 12:43-45 that an unclean spirit can return again after we get delivered (have our house cleaned!) and bring in seven more that are worse than the first!
Matthew 12:43 “When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. 44 Then he says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when he comes, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. 45 Then he goes and takes with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it also be with this wicked generation.”
CLEARLY Jesus taught that a Christian who gets delivered, because deliverance is only for the children of God, can become entangled in the world and darkness and open the door to demons.
This is why James gives the Christian a lesson in getting deliverance and maintaining it. These scriptures are deliverance in a nutshell.
James 4:7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. 9 Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up.
Personal Testimony about Deliverance
I have been fully delivered from alcoholism and have not had a drink or a desire to drink since 2008. My deliverance came about 2 months after I had the Lord reveal Himself to me in the spirit. Although I had walked and known Jesus as my Savior since I was 12, nothing like that had ever happened to me. All I did was simply ask the Lord to show me if He was real. I talk about this in my testimony here at this link. But it has taken many years to get delivered of other things, even though clearly I was born again and walking with the Lord.
Recently the Lord told me to quit eating so much and stop eating cake and other sweets. I realized that once you get delivered of one thing, satan comes in and attempts to bait and switch to something else. And if we are not aware of what is happening, then we become addicted and afflicted. The Lord showed me what I had is “lust of the flesh.” When you crave sugar to the point where you are eating cake every night, something is WRONG! I have undergone deliverance through renouncing this sin, repenting of it and submitting to the Lord. Even though I am still craving sweets, I am submitting to God, crucifying my flesh and resisting the devil, and he will flee and I will be completely set free soon, I know it.
You would not believe the emails I get from Christians about the demonic activity in their lives. They are afflicted with molestation and rape in their sleep by demons, they cannot stop drinking, smoking, masturbation, pornography, abusive behavior and speech toward their spouse and children and so much more. Are they lying that they are born again? I don’t think so. They need to submit to God, repent, renounce the sin, resist the devil and believe Gods word and get delivered. This takes our cooperation, for God will never go against our free will.
So to those of you who say a Christian cannot have a demon, you may have one yourself and are believing the lies of satan! If Christians cannot have a demon, then WHY are they not overcoming the sin?
May the God of Peace Himself Sanctify you Completely
Paul clearly taught that we are a three part being that needs to be COMPLETELY and WHOLLY sanctified.
1 Thessalonians 5:23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The tabernacle is a picture of the three parts of man, and really everything related to our walk. The Lord told me the pattern of the tabernacle overlays everything. We are going from glory to glory, as through the tabernacle. I have just touched the tip of the iceberg on this subject of the sanctification of the three parts of man, and in the times ahead I will be talking more about this. In the time being, I urge you all to study this and pray and ask the Lord to reveal it to you.
God is trying to show us something, and many are “kicking against the goads.”
In Christ, Sarah
